Car Cost Proof

Understand your written dealer quote

Texas Dealer Worksheet & Car Quote Checker

Manually enter a Texas dealer worksheet or buyer’s order to compare its amounts with an independent estimate of taxes, government fees and the purchase total. Dealer terminology varies, and not every charge can be classified. Results are informational estimates, not legal advice.

Enter dealer worksheet

Manual entry for Texas dealer purchases. Keep the independently modeled deal separate from the amounts on the written quote. Leave missing worksheet amounts blank; enter 0 only when confirmed.

Estimate date: 2026-10-07. Change it in Advanced options.

Dealer worksheet and independent deal inputs
Use the written purchase transaction total, not amount financed. Optional if you enter the worksheet’s vehicle price and other items below.
This answer chooses the matching expected total. It also applies when calculating a total from entered worksheet items.
Deal details

These inputs independently determine the CarCostProof estimate. Rebates and taxable add-ons must not already be included in the selling price. No custom worksheet charge changes this model automatically.

Vehicle deal
Negotiated selling price before tax, fees, rebates and trade-in. Enter the selling price, not MSRP.
Choose your Texas county of residence for title and registration.
Credits / reductions
Qualifying motor vehicle traded directly to the same seller in this transaction. Tax savings and payment credit are shown separately. Do not enter equity or loan payoff.
Qualifying separately stated rebates or discounts passed to you. Enter only amounts not already deducted from the selling price.
Dealer charges
Enter only accessories or attachments known to be taxable under the modeled rules and not already included in the selling price. This tool does not classify named products.
Your dealer’s separately stated documentary fee. It increases the transaction price but not Texas motor-vehicle taxable consideration. Leave blank if none.
Vehicle details
Needed for initial-registration and emissions eligibility.
Gross vehicle weight, not towing capacity.
Advanced options
Defaults to today on your device. Only the verified 2026 rule period is supported.
Dealer’s vehicle / deal amounts
Vehicle selling price before separately stated rebates, add-ons and trade-in credit. Required only to derive a worksheet total when no quoted total is entered.
Rebates / discounts not already deducted from the worksheet selling price.
Payment credit, not equity or loan payoff. Required to derive an after-trade total.
Dealer’s government charges
Use one grouping only. The combined amount includes government charges other than motor-vehicle tax and title.
Do not include sales tax, title, doc fee or dealer charges here. Map only an equivalent group; use itemized entry if the worksheet separates these charges.
Dealer-controlled and other charges
Dealer-controlled amount. No official documentary fee target is assumed. Enter it only once.
Total quoted add-ons not already in the selling price. These are not automatically added to the modeled taxable base; supported taxable amounts belong in Deal details.
Unclassified charges not included in any other entered amount. Use custom rows to describe individual charges instead; do not enter them twice.
Custom charges

Enter each charge once. Categories are your descriptions, not legal or tax conclusions. Custom charges never change the independent expected government calculation. Up to 20 rows.

Calculated on your device. Your entries remain local; categorical usage events may be sent to Google Analytics when enabled.

Dealer Quote Comparison

Enter the deal details, then the dealer’s quoted total or its vehicle price and available worksheet items. Choose whether the total includes trade-in credit. Your comparison will appear here; blank worksheet lines remain “Not provided.”

Informational comparison, not legal advice. Dealer terminology and circumstances vary; a difference does not establish an error or determine whether a charge is lawful. Request clarification and verify important amounts with appropriate authorities or professionals.

Read the quote, not just the total

What is a dealer worksheet or buyer’s order?

A dealer may provide a worksheet, purchase proposal, buyer’s order or written quote showing a vehicle price, credits, products, taxes, fees and a total. Labels and groupings vary. Use the purchase transaction figures, rather than a monthly payment or amount financed, and enter each charge only once.

Government fees vs dealer fees

CarCostProof independently models applicable Texas taxes, title and registration-related government fees using the deal and vehicle details. Documentary fees and add-ons are shown separately as dealer-controlled amounts. That category does not imply that a charge is improper or establish whether it is optional.

Why might the dealer quote differ?

Different selling prices, credits, products, vehicle classifications, local processing circumstances, effective dates or data-entry errors can explain differences. A combined fee may not cover the same items as the calculator’s group. Blank fields and custom charges also limit a line-by-line comparison.

What should I ask the dealer?

Request an itemized written explanation of unfamiliar charges. Ask which authority imposes a government-related fee, how vehicle tax was calculated, what an add-on includes and whether it is optional. The checker generates questions from your entries without drawing legal conclusions.

Does a higher quote mean the dealer is wrong?

No. A difference is a reason to review details, not automatic proof of error or wrongdoing. This tool does not determine whether a fee is lawful. Verify government charges with the appropriate authorities and seek qualified advice when needed.

Need an estimate before you have a quote?

Use the Texas Out-the-Door Car Price Calculator to build a dealer purchase estimate. For a focused calculation, use the vehicle sales tax calculator or the full tax, title and registration calculator.

Dealer worksheet comparison FAQ

What is a car dealer worksheet?

It is a written proposal or breakdown of a vehicle deal. It can list selling price, add-ons, taxes, fees, credits and a transaction total. Terminology and scope vary between dealerships.

What is a buyer’s order?

It is a dealer document describing the proposed vehicle purchase and its charges. Review the actual document’s terms and itemization; this checker compares entered numbers rather than interpreting a contract.

How can I check a Texas dealer quote?

Enter the deal details for an independent estimate, then enter the quote’s total and any equivalent itemized amounts. Specify whether the quoted total already includes trade-in credit. The checker shows exact differences and missing or unclassified amounts.

Which car fees are government fees in Texas?

The verified engine can include motor-vehicle tax, title, registration, TexasSure, county/local fees, inspection replacement, applicable emissions-related or EV fees, and processing and handling. Which lines apply depends on the county, date and vehicle.

Is a dealer documentary fee a government fee?

No. The separately stated documentary fee is shown as a dealer-controlled amount. This tool does not supply an official target doc fee, and the verified motor-vehicle tax calculation excludes it from taxable consideration.

Why is my dealer quote higher than the CarCostProof estimate?

The quote may use different transaction inputs or contain products, custom charges or costs outside the model. Missing entered items can also prevent reconciliation. Ask for an itemized explanation; a difference is not proof of an incorrect quote.

Can dealer add-ons increase sales tax?

Supported taxable accessories or attachments entered separately in Deal details affect the verified taxable consideration. A custom charge or user-selected category does not automatically establish its tax treatment or change the independent expected tax.

Does this tool tell me whether a fee is illegal?

No. It is an informational numerical comparison, not a legal determination. It distinguishes modeled government amounts, dealer-controlled amounts and charges without a matched target.

Does the checker include financing?

No. Interest, APR, loan terms, payments, financing products, loan payoff and negative equity are outside this purchase-transaction comparison. Do not compare an amount-financed figure with an out-the-door purchase total.

Can I upload a dealer worksheet?

No. This version uses manual entry only. Enter the numbers from the written quote; no image, PDF or document upload is available.
